(established 2012; last updated 3/10/18)

In 2012, Johnny delved into the publishing business by launching his own imprint, Infinitum Nihil, with HarperCollins.  Although his releases won't all necessarily be music-related, the first two titles to be announced both have a music connection.  The first was House Of Earth, a long-lost novel by legendary composer Woody Guthrie.  Johnny and Douglas Brinkley edited the novel.  The second was a biopic written by Douglas Brinkley called The Unraveled Tales Of Bob Dylan, with a then planned release in 2015.
As cited in the Washington Post, Johnny says,
“I pledge, on behalf of Infinitum Nihil, that we will do our best to deliver publications worthy of peoples’ time, of peoples’ concern, publications that might ordinarily never have breached the parapet. For this dream realized, we would like to salute HarperCollins for their faith in us and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship together.” The Wall Street Journal adds that "'he is interested in publishing biographies of famous figures and artists, as well as new fiction by young writers,' according to [Harper publisher Jonathan Burnham...  the imprint will pay special attention to the look and design of the books. Though the number of books to be published each year isn’t set yet, Burnham said he envisions the list will likely include about four to six books a year."
In 2014, several additional titles were announced for release in early 2015; one music-related title is Bob Gruen's See Hear Yoko, a photobiopic of Yoko Ono, which will be released in February.  Also to be released are Jonathan Shaw's Narcisa: Our Lady Of Ashes in March and Bruce Robinson's They All Love Jack: Busting The Ripper in October.  The existence of yet another planned music-related release came to light: an autobiography by record producer Jack Douglas.  The release date for Douglas Brinkley's Dylan book had not yet been set as of fall 2015.
Although Johnny Depp Rocks focuses on Johnny's music, this page will focus on all of Infinitum Nihil's book releases, even the non-music-related ones, since it is impossible to separate them by topic.  At any rate, surely all of the Infinitum Nihil releases will be "rock & roll!"

In addition to the book imprint, a new company called Infinitum Nihil Records (aka Infinitum-Nihil Records, LLC) was filed as a domestic corporation on May 27, 2011.  In addition, Infinitum Nihil Music LLC was filed on September 28, 2011.
As of December 22 2013, Elisa (aka Christi) Dembrowski is named as a Member of both corporations.  In January of 2013, the two recordings of Tonto's Giant Nuts featuring Johnny on the West Of Memphis: Voices For Justice soundtrack cite Infinitum Nihil Records in the liner notes.  Whereas The Rum Diary Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and More Music From The Rum Diary cite the production company Infinitum Nihil (since the film was produced by Infinitum Nihil), the West Of Memphissoundtrack is the first known recording to specifically credit Infinitum Nihil Records.  In 2014, Chuck E. Weiss' album Red Beans And Weiss was credited as "An Anti/Infinitum Nihil Release".  In this case, there is no connection to the film company.  A video for Weiss' song Boston Blackie gives the credit "Infinitum Nihil Cartoons".

Finally, Infinitum Nihil is also stepping into the world of television.  On July 7, 2015, it was announced
by and IndieWire that IN will be involved in the production of Muscle Shoals, a new scripted TV series inspired by the 2013 documentary of the same name.  Christi says of the project:  “Muscle Shoals is an extraordinary story in which, through adversity, some of the world’s most amazing music was created. It is perfectly suited for Infinitum as it combines Johnny’s love of music and its history with our company’s creative mission to tell these stories."  In late September of 2015, unconfirmed rumors were swirling that Johnny was visiting Florence, Alabama in connection with the show.
An April 28, 2016 Deadline article further reported that IN would be partnering with IM Global Television and IM Global Music to develop the series, which will be based on Rick Hall’s autobiography The Man From Muscle Shoals: My Journey from Shame to Fame. On January 17, 2018, Deadline announced that rock legend Nancy Wilson will executive produce and Bettina Gilois will write the series.
So far there's no word on the timing of the series or what network might air it, so stay tuned!

1) Woody Guthrie: House Of Earth - A Novel
"edited and introduced by Douglas Brinkley and Johnny Depp"

Released February 5, 2013.

From the Back Cover
Finished in 1947, House of Earth is Woody Guthrie's only fully realized novel—a powerful portrait of Dust Bowl America, filled with the homespun lyricism and authenticity that have made his songs a part of our national consciousness.

Tike and Ella May Hamlin struggle to plant roots in the arid land of the Texas Panhandle. The husband and wife live in a precarious wooden farm shack, but Tike yearns for a sturdy house that will protect them from the treacherous elements. Thanks to a five-cent government pamphlet, Tike has the know-how to build a simple adobe dwelling, a structure made from the land itself—fireproof, windproof, Dust Bowl–proof. A house of earth.

Though they are one with the farm and with each other, the land on which Tike and Ella May live and work is not theirs. Due to larger forces beyond their control—including ranching conglomerates and banks—their adobe house remains painfully out of reach.

A story of rural realism, and in many ways a companion piece to Guthrie's folk anthem "This Land Is Your Land," House of Earth is a searing portrait of hardship and hope set against a ravaged landscape.

2) Bob Gruen and Jody Denberg: See Hear Yoko

Released February 17, 2015.

From the Back Cover
Conceived expressly for Yoko Ono as a gift between friends on the occasion of her eightieth birthday, See Hear Yoko is a visual portrait of an icon of contemporary American cultural history, from her days with John Lennon through to the present. Legendary rock and roll photographer Bob Gruen was welcomed into the lives of John Lennon and Yoko Ono during their years in New York City, when Gruen served as their personal lensman, and he continues to document Yoko today. Approached by his friend Jody Denberg, an Austin rock radio mainstay who had logged twenty-five years of interviews with Yoko, Gruen collaborated with him to create an extraordinary birthday gift. In this breathtaking volume, Gruen has selected more than three hundred classic color and black-and-white photographs—accompanied by text of Yoko's insights gleaned from Denberg's many hours of interviews—to illuminate the intimate story of Yoko Ono at the height of her fame as a woman, wife, mother, and avant-garde artist who keeps creating because, as she notes, "that's who I am." Yoko's role as a peace activist and artist underscores the enduring legacy of the era. See Hear Yoko reveals a modern woman in love, in ascension, in grief, in joy, and in peace.

Lavish and beautiful, mirroring the deeply personal design of the original volume given to Yoko herself, See Hear Yoko brings into focus an extraordinary woman, and one of the most memorable periods in modern history.

3) Jonathan Shaw: Narcisa: Our Lady Of Ashes

Released March 24, 2015.

Book description:
The first trade edition of the cult classic from the artist/author hailed by Iggy Pop as “the great nightmare anti-hero of the new age,” legendary tattoo artist Jonathan Shaw, that chronicles a scandalous, degenerative addiction between two people—a wild, brutal, passionate, and unstoppable ride into depravity and darkness through the back alleys of Rio De Janeiro and New York City.

A legendary tattoo master and notorious creator of trendsetting underground art, Jonathan Shaw has created a masterpiece with this powerful story that captures the destructive addiction of love, sex and drugs, embodied in two people whose irresistible passions threaten to destroy them.

In the wild backwaters of Rio de Janeiro and New York, motorcycle-riding, nomadic outlaw poet Ignacio Valencia Lobos—known as Cigano—attempts in vain to curb the unhinged habits of his lover Narcisa, a crack-smoking philosopher prostitute. Though he knows they will destroy each other, Narcisa is an exquisite poison he cannot resist. As they navigate the chaos of her downward spiral—dragged deeper by the gravity of drugs, burglaries and violence, Cigano recounts a love affair doomed by insanity, dysfunction, and vice.

A magnificent epic of literary genius, Narcisa belongs among the works of such greats as Charles Bukowski, Henry Miller, William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Irvine Welsh, and Hunter S. Thompson.

Overview from Barnes and Noble:
For over a hundred years, the mystery of Jack the Ripper has been a source of unparalleled fascination and horror, spawning an army of obsessive theorists and endless volumes purporting to finally reveal the identity of the brutal murderer who terrorized Victorian England.

But what if there was never really any mystery at all? What if the Ripper was always hiding in plain sight, deliberately leaving a trail of clues to his identity for anyone who cared to look, while cynically mocking those who were supposedly attempting to bring him to justice?

In They All Love Jack, the award-winning film director and screenwriter Bruce Robinson exposes the cover-up that enabled one of history's most notorious serial killers to remain at large. More than twelve years in the writing, this is no mere radical reinterpretation of the Jack the Ripper legend and an enthralling hunt for the killer. A literary high-wire act reminiscent of Tom Wolfe or Hunter S. Thompson, it is an expressionistic journey through the cesspools of late-Victorian society, a phantasmagoria of highly placed villains, hypocrites, and institutionalized corruption.

Polemic forensic investigation and panoramic portrait of an age, underpinned by deep scholarship and delivered in Robinson's inimitably vivid and scabrous prose, They All Love Jack is an absolutely riveting and unique book, demolishing the theories of generations of self-appointed experts—the so-called Ripperologists—to make clear, at last, who really did it; and, more important, how he managed to get away with it for so long.
